Applications are invited for the post of College Assistant Professor in English and Bye Fellow at Lucy Cavendish College (fixed-term, nine-month maternity cover).

This fixed term post may provide a valuable development opportunity for an individual in the early stages of their academic career to allow them to build teaching skills and a publication record, whilst carrying out research and other academic activity with a view to obtaining a university appointment either within the University of Cambridge or elsewhere.

The postholder will be expected to undertake 12 hours of supervisions per week for 2.5 terms for the College and to assume the role of Director of Studies for English. The College is seeking a candidate who can teach several of the compulsory Part I period papers; specifically, they must be able to offer Papers 6 (English Literature and its Contexts 1660-1870) and 7a (English Literature and its Contexts 1830-1945).

Since our students come from a wide range of backgrounds, experience in teaching and working with students for whom the Cambridge learning environment may be unfamiliar will be an advantage. The appointee will therefore need to have a flexible approach to their teaching and be able to adjust to the widely differing backgrounds of the students on admission.

Lucy Cavendish College has a strong literary tradition. The appointee will be expected to direct the College Writing Centre (https://www.lucy.cam.ac.uk/writing-centre) and to take responsibility for successful delivery of the renowned Lucy Cavendish Fiction Prize https://www.lucy.cam.ac.uk/fictionprize) in 2025.
