Bridging Week: a worthwhile experience for settling in and feeling supported

Natural Sciences student Rosa tells us how Lucy’s Bridging Week helped her to feel part of the Lucy Community
“For me, the Bridging Course was a whirlwind experience. I went to bed each night with my head buzzing from the events of the day, but definitely all in such a positive way. It was amazing to meet all the undergraduates in my year at Lucy, especially since we are such a small college it felt even more important that we got to know everyone on a more personal level. This, in my opinion, was the most valuable aspect of the bridging week – having the time, before lectures started and it got insanely busy, to make friends with students from other subjects. I think without bridging week it would have felt overwhelming to settle in, make friends, and figure out subject matters all in three days before lectures started… Bridging week gave us all the luxury to tackle each matter at a time.
During the week I took part in pretty much all of the activities (apart from the walk to Grantchester because the British weather was just too rainy for me, although I massively regret not going now!) I found the library introductions most useful, and thoroughly enjoyed the pizza and curry nights! After the week I felt completely at home at Lucy and fell in love with the community there: everyone is so friendly and approachable, you can talk to anyone, and the whole college feels like a really safe space – so important for when the madness of Cambridge kicks in!”
With your support during LucyGives (18-25 October), Lucy will spearhead two revolutionary programmes – the Bridging Week and a student co-led Research Programme - ensuring that the lived Cambridge experiences of all our students are dramatically improved. We will level the playing field, making sure that all students - irrespective of background - have an equal chance of unlocking their academic potential, starting as soon as their first year begins.
In this way, your support will bridge the gaps in academic attainment and subsequent career progression that students from under-represented students at Cambridge would normally face, helping to boost social mobility.
