Make a difference

Lucy Cavendish is a strong, ambitious community working hard to make a positive impact on society.

Many of our students, researchers, staff and alumni are actively engaged in addressing the complex global challenges that affect us all; climate change, sustainable development, clean energy, food security and public health. Every year we run a themed series of presentations given by experts and policy-makers on these challenges. The events are free and open to all. There are opportunities to network with the speakers and meet others with similar interests, often from different courses or research traditions. Being a Cambridge college enables people from different fields to engage with each other in a trans-disciplinary way. New ideas are sparked. Knowledge is shared. New and novel approaches to a problem aired. It’s vibrant and intellectually exciting. Similarly, our postgraduate and postdoctoral members run joint seminars, too, preceded by drinks and a meal together. They also meet socially to get to know each other and find out more about each other's research.
