Students continue to praise our staff for their friendly approach and helpful manner. We're also extremely proud of the external accreditations we hold.

Sixty staff work together at Lucy Cavendish College and they are all committed to making you feel welcome here as your “home from home”.

We run a student feedback survey every year and act on ideas for improvement that our students identify.

The Admissions Team are there to support students through every step of their application to Lucy Cavendish College. From our outreach programmes which provide information, guidance, and enrichment opportunities to prospective applicants, to providing information and guidance the application process, to providing support to offer-holders and welcoming them to our College community. If you have any questions about admissions, please don't hesitate to get in touch with us at admissions@lucy.cam.ac.uk.

Our chefs and front of house team provide a wide variety of dishes each week and cater for different dietary requirements too. They enjoy preparing and serving special meals on celebratory days like Thanksgiving and themed “fun” days like Halloween. And a steady flow of delicious items finds its way to the Café from our kitchens for breakfast and morning coffee.

If you have an idea or a story that you would like to share with the world, our Comms Team is happy to help. You might want to do an Instagram takeover on the College’s Instagram page, or perhaps you would like to write an article for the College website. Also, if you have been contacted by a reporter or would like to engage with external press, our Comms Team can provide media training and guidance. If you have any questions about media and communications, please don't hesitate to get in touch with us at comms@lucy.cam.ac.uk.

Lucy’s Development team are the first port of call for our 2800+ College members worldwide. They help to strengthen the global Lucy community, and provide opportunities for alumni and friends to get involved with College life. The Development team are also responsible for Lucy’s fundraising activities, working with the College’s generous supporters to:

  • provide opportunities at Cambridge for even more individuals from under-represented backgrounds;

  • help close the academic attainment and career progression gaps between those from under-represented backgrounds and their more privileged peers;

  • support those who have the passion, commitment and leadership potential to address the global challenges that characterise our societies in the 21st Century.

We are proud of our gardens, which you can enjoy freely – there are no “keep off the grass” signs here. We welcome the public when we open as part of the National Open Gardens Day each summer. Our gardening team work hard to make sure we have colour and interest in our flower beds and large garden pots all year round and especially in the late spring and early summer when students like to revise outside on sunny days.

The whole community takes pride in our college buildings which are kept in excellent condition by our dedicated team of housekeeping and maintenance staff. You will have to clean your own room though!

The IT Team are located on the first floor of the Library and are always happy to help staff, Fellows and Students with any IT issues they have. The team provide student PCs and printing services in the Library and of course a Wi-Fi service across all the College buildings.

The Library staff are fantastic, know just what help you need at different stages of your course and run skill sessions that boost your academic performance. More than 90% of the student survey respondents last year rated their support as “very good” or “good”.

“[I particularly value] the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff, especially the support and community offered by the librarians at the library, which is itself a lovely space.”

Our porters are often a first point of contact for students. Over 90% of students in the latest survey rated the support provided by them as “very good” or “good”. They help to sort out everyday issues that make the day run smoothly, from sorting out parcels, ordering cabs to helping students with directions – and often just being there for a friendly chat.

“The support provided by the Porters is amazing. They are always happy to help you with anything you need.”

Porters

The team in the Bursar’s Office liaise with the Student Loans Company on students’ behalf, pay studentships, bursaries and awards and, of course, will bill you for your accommodation. You can find them in College House.

The Student Office works closely with the Senior Tutor, Tutors and Members of the College to support students throughout their time at Lucy Cavendish.

It is there to ensure students have information about funding opportunities, are entered for their exams, meet the obligations of their student visa, keep the necessary number of terms, and have proof of their student status should they need it. We arrange for you to matriculate as a member of the College and University promptly after your arrival in Cambridge, and we organise your graduation celebration when you finish your degree.

The team has a wealth of knowledge and experience and can offer help and advice about a wide range of College and University matters.
