Profile
Christopher Fowell is Director of Studies for Medicine and also an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, where he has special interests in facial deformity, the management of traumatic injury of the facial skeleton and vascular malformations of the head and neck. Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) requires qualification in both dentistry and medicine, with Christopher completing his Bachelor of Dental Surgery (Sheffield) in 2001 and Bachelor of Medicine & Surgery (Birmingham) in 2007.
Christopher undertook his basic and higher surgical training in the West Midlands, complemented by fellowships in Bangalore, India and at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne, Australia. As an active member of the British Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons, Christopher was awarded the prestigious Norman Rowe Clinical Prize in 2015. Christopher teaches head and neck anatomy at both collegiate and university level and is the regional Training Programme Director for OMFS and College Surgical Tutor.
In all of Christopher’s undergraduate and postgraduate educational roles, he endeavours to highlight his passion for the development of non-technical skills in healthcare, utilising situational awareness, decision-making and communication to reduce adverse patient outcomes. This enthusiasm for human factors links closely to his interest in the importance of civility in the clinical team’s performance.
Away from work Christopher enjoys spending time with his young family, playing cricket and squash and watching any live sport that is available!
