Alison is a Professor in Physiology, having trained in physiology, cardiology, and endocrinology at the University of Sydney, Australia. Her academic journey commenced with a focus on researching the physiology of steroid hormones and their impact on cardiovascular disease. Alison's research continues to centre on the molecular intricacies of steroid hormones, aiming to unravel how they function and contribute to health and disease.
In 2020, Professor Heather co-founded InsituGen, a start-up biotech dedicated to manufacturing test kits designed for detecting steroid hormones in various samples, ranging from biological to food and environmental. Alison has transitioned to the role of full-time Chief Scientific Officer at InsituGen, where she assumes responsibility for overseeing research and development, intellectual property protection, and the early stages of production. InsituGen has recently launched its inaugural test kit, specifically crafted for identifying designer steroids used by unethical athletes, marking a ground-breaking stride in ensuring a fair and equitable playing field in sports.
Outside the realms of academia and business, Alison actively engages in long-distance triathlon at the international level. Her participation extends to both International Triathlon Union (ITU) and Ironman World Championship races, showcasing her dedication and passion for athletic endeavors when not immersed in her professional commitments.
