Richard Hefford-Hobbs is an engineer, entrepreneur and philanthropist. After completing a Master’s degree at UCL, he went up to Oxford to read for a MSt in the History of Design. His research focused on ‘The History of Design’ during the period of 1851-1951, and specifically focused on English Game Gun design and manufacture during this period. Today he is engaged in numerous commercial, educational and voluntary endeavours to promote and support manufacturing, engineering innovation, commerce, education, and the arts. He is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology and Vice-President of Heritage Crafts, an association which aims to support and promote crafts as a fundamental part of our living heritage, Freeman of the City of London, Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Gunmakers, Trustee of the Gunmakers Company Charitable Trust, and on the leadership team at Gallyon.
He founded Cambridge Precision Ltd (CPL) in 1994. CPL is a global leader in the field of precision engineering and delivers a range of digital production solutions for critical and emerging technologies. Its state-of-the-art equipment is used to meet the needs of diverse clients, predominantly in the med-tech, imaging, security, life sciences and robotics sectors. Through collaborations with business, education, politicians and policy makers, Richard plays a part in numerous initiatives to effect social change and progress, on a national and global level.
An ongoing collaboration between Lucy Cavendish College, CPL and the Cambridge Judge Business School supports the Careers and Enterprise initiative at the College. CPL is the sponsor of the LucEnt Challenge.
