Lucy Cavendish has a diverse and supportive community of Engineers.

The Cambridge course leads to a BA after three years, and ordinarily an MEng, after four. It provides a broad education in engineering fundamentals, followed by in-depth training in one professional specialism. Cambridge Engineers are highly employable, and almost all find jobs within six months of graduating.

Lucy Cavendish hosts a number of events for Cambridge AWiSE, a regional network for women in STEM, and is committed to the Engineering Diversity initiative (previously Women in Engineering), improving the experience of women in engineering.

The Engineering course at Cambridge lasts four years and leads to two degrees: BA (with Honours) and MEng.

The first two years of the course are designed to give students a broad overview of the subject, covering mechanical and structural engineering, as well as materials, electrical and information engineering.

In third year, students are required to specialise and at the end of the year students qualify for a BA (with Honours). Students leaving after three years (which is extremely rare) would be leaving their professional education unfinished as the MEng satisfies the educational base for a Chartered Engineer.

Interviews

Interviews allow us to distinguish amongst excellent applicants by assessing the skills and aptitudes essential for successful study in higher education, and your academic qualities – essentially, how do you think?

Interviews for all applicants to Lucy Cavendish will take place virtually. The aims and content will still be the same as in-person interviews. You can read more about Lucy Cavendish's online interviews here and you can read the University's information on interviews here.

Each candidate typically has two interviews, lasting between twenty and thirty minutes. In some cases, you will be given preparatory material beforehand.

In a few subjects, you will be interviewed by more than one College or in the Faculty. You will be notified of this in your interview invitation.

Supracurricular exploration is an important way to expand your knowledge of your subject, explore your interests and develop your skills. Our new webpage contains guidance on supracurricular exploration and a comprehensive source of resources, grouped according to undergraduate degrees at Cambridge.
