The College’s Speed Mentoring events provide opportunities to build up professional networks within Cambridge and beyond.

AstraZeneca is a contributing organisation of the Lucy Cavendish Life Sciences Community which helps support students develop their career readiness during their university years.

At the beginning of Easter Term the College welcomed representatives of AstraZeneca for what has become an extremely popular annual event. At “Speed Mentoring” graduate students in all disciplines are invited to meet the team from AstraZeneca who have a wide range of experiences across different business functions and geographies. In a series of short meetings the mentors offer their advice on students’ career-related quandaries and help the mentees understand their options for the future. Some also shared their career stories with the group, including Lucy alumna Linda Pomeroy (2004).

Masters and PhD students in subjects as wide ranging as Law, Social Anthropology and Genomic Medicine attended and thoroughly enjoyed the event. One participant said

“The experiences mentors shared were very inspiring, and they provided me with more insights of possibilities of my own future”

Thank you to all participants – mentors and mentees – for their enthusiastic participation.
