The prize, launching this year, is possible thanks to the generosity of Lucy alumna Michelle Wood.
The Beatriz Yeron Prize for Academic Achievement will be awarded at the end of every academic year to Human, Social and Political Studies Undergraduates who received the best result in HSPS in their year group: one prize per cohort (one for first year, one for second year, and one for third year) for a value of £150 each.
Established by Lucy Alumna, Michelle Wood (MPhil Sociology, 2018), the Prize is named after Michelle’s grandmother.
Michelle says, “The Beatriz Yeron Prize is named after my grandma, one of the most inspirational women I know. She grew up in the 1930s in a rural village in Argentina and emigrated to Los Angeles with my grandpa, where she went on to raise 5 kids, 15 grandkids and 6 great-grandkids. At 88, she is one of the most open-minded, accepting and loving people I know, and always believes the best in everyone. From a young age, she instilled in me the belief that you can do anything you want if you work hard enough. My time at Cambridge is proof that this is true, and I hope that this prize helps to inspire other Lucians to achieve their potential through hard work and belief in themselves.”
Michelle is currently Head of People at birdie, a home health technology startup with a mission to reinvent care to enable older adults to age with confidence at home.
