Five students have been shortlisted for the College's Student Fiction Prize
Fellow-Commoner Boni Sones OBE interviewed five authors, who spoke at our Fiction Prize Festival last weekend.
On Saturday 19 January 2019, Lucy Cavendish College held its first Fiction Prize Festival. The day shared literary advice and inspiration with its guests. Boni Sones OBE, Fellow-Commoner, interviewed five festival speakers about their novels, their journeys and more. The podcast is now available to listen to from this link:
The College has a strong tradition of supporting and celebrating authors. This is evident in the prestigious Lucy Cavendish Fiction Prize and in 2019, for the first time, the Fiction Prize Festival. A day of talks, workshops and one-to-ones with industry experts, the festival helped aspiring authors learn how to debut a bestselling novel. The new podcast takes this further; it’s a chance to find out what it’s like to be a writer, how authors meet their agents, and how they get published.
Boni spoke to five talented authors who spoke at the Fiction Prize Festival: Allison Pearson (I Don’t Know How She Does It, I Think I Love You, How Hard Can It Be?), Kelleigh Greenberg-Jephcott (Swan Song), Lesley Sanderson (The Orchid Girls), Sara Collins (The Confessions of Frannie Langton, coming soon), and Frances Maynard (The Seven Imperfect Rules of Elvira Carr). They all agreed that entering competitions is a great way to get started and increase confidence in your own writing; those who entered attribute their success, in part, to the Lucy Cavendish Fiction Prize. The authors also talked about their motivations, the themes they chose for their novels, and how they were discovered by the literary world.
