Lucy Cavendish College is delighted to announce the launch of the Lucy Writers’ Platform, founded and managed by alumna Hannah Hutchings-Georgiou (English, 2008).

orange and background. inserts of women's faces. Lucy writer's platform written in whiteThe Lucy Writers’ Platform is a website devoted to showcasing the work of women writers and creatives. It aims to challenge and change the culture around online journalism and writing, and to provide a safe, inclusive and inspiring space for writers and artists.

The site’s first content includes an article about leading creative writing workshops with women from a prison in Kenya, a review of a double bill by Ballet Black, reviews of art exhibitions at the Dulwich Picture Gallery, the National Gallery and the National Portrait Gallery. There is also an article about the inspiring life of Professor Wangari Maathai, the radical environmentalist and women’s rights advocate from Kenya.

Over the next few months, the platform will be releasing special commissions, featuring interviews with Sharmaine Lovegrove of Dialogue Books, Botis Seva of Far From The Norm dance company, Cassa Pancho of Ballet Black and Kelleigh Greenberg-Jephcott, author of Swan Song and LCC Fiction Prize nominee.

Founder, Hannah Hutchings-Georgiou is reaching out for ideas, pitches and submissions and for new reviewers. The current theme is ‘Kooky, Funky, Radical Women’, with a special emphasis on those figures and groups that are not traditionally held up by feminist historians and critics (real figures such as Valerie Solanas; mythical ones like Medea and Circe). All women writers are invited to submit via the website: http://lucywritersplatform.com

“I'm extremely proud of all the writers who have contributed to Lucy Writers so far. They've made it an extremely exciting and diversely enriching online space, one of which I feel honoured to be part of. We have some excellent contributions from writers in and outside of the Lucy Cavendish College community. Many thanks to everyone who helped make this happen.”

Director of Studies in English, Dr Isobel Maddison said:

“Hannah has worked incredibly hard to bring this new writing platform to fruition. It will be a fantastic resource for our whole writing community, and many from further afield too. We look forward to reading every new article and helping the platform to grow in the future. Hannah is a great example of our alumnae making a positive impact to society.”
