Dr Alison Walker was awarded the medal for outstanding contribution to the service.
Dr Walker (Medical Sciences, 1990) is the West Midlands Ambulance Service University NHS Foundation Trust Medical Director, as well as a Consultant in Emergency Medicine (A&E).
Last week, she received a prestigious award from the Royal College of Emergency Medicine (RCEM) for her outstanding work over the last 17 years, but in particular during the pandemic.
Dr Alison Walker was one of only four recipients given medals by RCEM President, Dr Katherine Henderson, at a ceremony that took place at Central Hall Westminster, this morning.
Dr Walker was awarded the medal for outstanding contribution to RCEM, following the vital link and support she provided between emergency medicine and the ambulance services. Alison’s work in this area has helped build stronger mutual respect and communications.
Alison says, “I’m delighted to receive this medal from the Royal College of Emergency Medicine for joint working across Emergency Medicine and the Ambulance Services over the last 17 years but particularly for the work across our systems during the pandemic.
My career as a doctor started as a medical student at Lucy Cavendish College (1990-95), there is no doubt that the support and values from LCC shaped much of my cross system working and leadership roles since. In 1990 as a mature female student, LCC and Cambridge University were the only institutions who offered me this opportunity to progress my career. I was and still am very grateful for the faith they had in me and the friendships I still have from my time at Lucy.”
