Meet Lucy Bunker, our new Outreach & Recruitment Officer

You’ve probably heard: Lucy Cavendish College is changing. From 2021, the College will broaden its mission to increase opportunities for those seeking a Cambridge University education by admitting both women and men of 18 years and older. By becoming a mixed, standard-age-entry college, we’ll enable more enquiring minds to experience world-class higher education, regardless of age, gender or background.

With a wider audience in our sights, we’re rethinking how we get our message out that Lucy could be, maybe, is the place for you. To this end, we decided we needed someone with experience of making Cambridge an option for people who perhaps, for a whole host of reasons, hadn’t considered it.

Enter Lucy Bunker, our very first Outreach & Recruitment Coordinator. Lucy’s worked in recruitment and outreach for the University and its colleges for three years, delivering a variety of initiatives aimed at widening access and encouraging talented students from all backgrounds to aspire to Cambridge – and to university more generally.

Lucy said:

“Lucy Cavendish has a fascinating history and an even more exciting future; I couldn’t have picked a better time to join. I’ll be taking the lead on developing and implementing our Outreach Strategy with the Admissions team. My aim is to demystify the world’s second-oldest university and emphasise that there is no set ‘type’ of applicant that we are looking for at Cambridge. Capable, passionate students of all ages and walks of life are welcome here. Never think that Cambridge isn’t for 'people like me.’”

Lucy is busily planning a new programme of events and initiatives which encourage prospective students to “aim high – to consider doing something or going somewhere they thought was out of reach to them.” In the meantime, if you’re a prospective student or school with an interest in visiting Lucy Cavendish College – or us visiting you – please get in touch with our admissions team.
