On Saturday 19 October 2019 we were delighted to welcome 50 members of the Anna Bidder Society and their guests for the annual celebratory lunch hosted jointly by Society (and Former College) President Baroness Perry of Southwark and College President Professor Dame Madeleine Atkins.

The Anna Bidder Society was re-established in 2015, and its membership of 90 comprises those who have so kindly pledged to remember Lucy Cavendish College in their wills. The annual Anna Bidder Society Lunch is a wonderful opportunity for the College to thank members in person for the meaningful commitment they have made, while also enables members to meet with the College President and Fellows, and to hear about the latest College developments.

Emma Liu

Following lunch, Senior Associate and Former College Fellow Dr Emma Liu spoke about her career as a Volcanologist, starting after visiting Mount St Helens aged 6, before outlining her more recent research on the development and field application of Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) – drones – for in-situ volcanic gas and aerosol measurements within previously inaccessible volcanic plumes. Emma is now a Lecturer at UCL, but spoke warmly of the part Lucy played in her trailblazing career.
