The Dr Karen Thomas Rowing Scholarship will support current and future students to participate fully in LCC Boat Club life

The College was deeply saddened to hear of the untimely death of Dr Karen Thomas in July 2022. Karen was an active member of the Lucy community since embarking upon her PhD in 2017. She pursued her research interests with passion and drive as she worked hard to improve the understanding and management of Post-Stroke Fatigue. Additionally of course, Karen was committed to sport. She had a full Blue in Sailing, and she was dedicated to the Lucy Boat Club.

To celebrate Karen’s life and to commemorate her outstanding contribution to our College, with the blessing of Karen’s family we are fundraising for The Dr Karen Thomas Rowing Scholarship. This Scholarship will support students in meeting the costs associated with their participation in rowing. To provide an example of costs incurred by rowers, annual membership amounts to £120 (covering race fees and a contribution to essential maintenance and running costs) while a full all-in-one Lycra rowing race kit costs £50.

The more we raise, the longer into the future this special Scholarship will support students in Karen's memory. All gifts for this Scholarship whatever their size, will make a lasting difference to students following in Karen's footsteps at the Lucy Cavendish College Boat Club.
