Lucy student, Farah Aljazy, leads a Q&A talk with leading barrister.

On the 4th of May, the Cambridge University Amnesty committee hosted Sir Geoffrey Nice for a Q&A Talk at Lucy Cavendish College. Sir Geoffrey Nice, a leading barrister since 1971, discussed the political and legislative contexts of both the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia and the Ughur Tribunal which he chaired. Sir Geoffrey shared his unique experiences from these tribunals and evaluated their successes and shortcomings. The audience was filled with students of law, history, and politics who thoroughly engaged with Sir Geoffrey's insights on the challenging position of sovereignty in the fields of law and international relations. Sir Geoffrey provided the audience with valuable advice on how to separate between one's political views and legal role. The audience agreed with Sir Geoffrey on the role of international organisations such as Amnesty in objectively highlighting human rights violations. Sir Geoffrey also held a book signing for his book (Justice for All and How to Achieve it: Citizens, lawyers and the law in the age of human rights) which students found really relevant to topics they cover in their degrees. The Amnesty Committee also invited Sir Geoffrey to a formal hall at Lucy Cavendish where discussions continued about the role of our generation in highlighting the need for effective enforcement mechanisms and justice systems that protect the most vulnerable.
