Undergraduate students, Naythan and Akorede, have earned places on the Centre for Music Performance's Advanced Popular Performance Scheme.
Lucy Cavendish College is delighted to announce that two of its students, Naythan Aung (Engineering Tripos) and Akorede Shonubi (Law Tripos), have been selected for the Centre for Music Performance's Advanced Popular Performance Scheme (APPS) for 2024-25.
This highly competitive scheme fosters excellence in popular music at the University of Cambridge. Out of 80 applicants from 26 colleges, only 23 students were chosen, making this a significant achievement for Naythan and Akorede.
Both students are members of the band Lost Project, whose musical style draws influences from pop, jazz, rap, and hip hop. The band will receive expert coaching from Yolanda Charles MBE, a renowned musician and educator.
APPS provides professional mentoring and support to talented popular music students, offering them the opportunity to develop their skills and reach their full potential. Participants on the scheme benefit from:
- One-to-one coaching: Vocalists receive individual coaching from industry professionals, focusing on performance technique, songwriting, and vocal health.
- Band coaching: Bands receive tailored coaching from leading figures in the music industry.
- Performance opportunities: All participants have the chance to perform in gigs organised by the Centre for Music Performance.
The scheme has already proven to be a valuable experience for past participants.
Lucy Cavendish College congratulates Naythan and Akorede on their selection for this prestigious scheme and wishes them every success in their musical careers.
