Foundation Year in Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences (pre-degree course)
The Cambridge Foundation Year is a unique course intended to provide a stepping stone to Cambridge for students who have been prevented from realising their potential due to educational disadvantage or disruption. The course is a free and fully-funded programme offering study in the Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. It is only available as a full-time, one-year residential programme, and it is only open to those ordinarily resident in the UK. Prospective Applicants must meet strict eligibility criteria as well as academic entry requirements.
Students will have the option of studying here at Lucy Cavendish or one of the other participating Colleges, and will benefit from the community, support and academic stimulation this offers, which is intrinsic to the Cambridge experience.

Director of Studies
Dr Stuart Palmer
Director of Studies for the Foundation YearStuart is a historian specialising in the history of early modern popular politics and religion, and holds a PhD in Medieval and Early Modern Studies from the University of Kent. His doctoral research focused on the impact of the early Reformation on urban politics, and he has subsequently researched a range of topics surrounding provincial political culture during the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries.
Stuart is an enthusiastic teacher, and is currently a Teaching Assistant on the Cambridge Foundation Year Programme and will be Director of Studies for the Foundation Year at Lucy Cavendish. Before coming to Lucy, he taught History in a range of settings, including the University of Kent, University of East Anglia, and Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge.
Alongside teaching and research, Stuart is passionate about widening access to Higher Education and has worked in various roles in Cambridge and elsewhere that have looked to break down systemic barriers to universities.
