Welcome to Lucy! And welcome back to our returning students!

Lucy Cavendish is committed to supporting our students academically, pastorally and in increasing your employability; we intend that you leave Lucy with the best degree possible, and with the skills to make your way in the world and in your career.

This year, 2024-25, Lucy is bringing together its support for students under the banner of the Lucy Tutorial Programme. The Tutorial Programme has three strands: Academic, Wellbeing and Life, and Careers. The Programme will help you to really get the best out of your time at Lucy.

The Tutorial Programme has several components. The Student Office and your Tutors are here to give you directions and advice on where to go within College if you encounter any problems.

The Student Office – which can be found on the first floor of College House – should be your first port of call for any questions. If you have an issue related to, for example, IT, Accommodation or Health problems, then you can go straight to the relevant staff or department. But, if you aren’t sure who to go to, come to the Student Office.

Likewise, you should approach your Tutor if you have personal or pastoral issues. At Cambridge, all students are assigned a Tutor for Pastoral support, which can include advice about academic, financial, health, family or other personal issues that may be affecting your ability to pursue your studies. While you are at Cambridge, Tutors may also offer advice about employability, careers and career skills. The Tutorial Programme complements the Tutors in providing information and advice.

The Tutorial Programme will offer a range of events and support across the academic year.

Incoming students will attend group sessions intended to introduce you to the Cambridge system, and what the College and University can offer (and what we can’t offer). Each session will connect to one of the Programme’s strands of Academic, Wellbeing and Life, and Careers. In the Academic strand, we will introduce incoming undergraduates to the Cambridge system of teaching and how to get the best out of it. Group sessions for Masters students will include how to incorporate feedback and dissertation writing. The Wellbeing and Life sessions will include an introduction and overview of wellbeing support; Budgeting and Finance; and Exam Wellbeing. The Careers sessions will include (for Masters students) both applying for PhDs and careers outside academia; and, for undergraduates, introductions to the Futures Hub and the Careers Service.

Academic success is at the core of the College’s mission – we are committed to ensuring our students leave with the results they deserve.

The College and University put life skills and student wellbeing at the heart of what we do. This strand is intended to make sure that you make the most of your time at Lucy, developing skills which you will be able to apply throughout your life.

We work closely with the Lucy Futures Hub and the University Careers Service to help you think about your career options and to build your employability during your time at Lucy. The Tutorial Programme will plug you in to the many resources at Lucy and the University.

The Tutorial Programme is led by Dr Ben Wiedemann and Dr Koenraad Claes, with support from the College’s academic and Pastoral teams, and the Lucy Futures Hub.
