We aim to provide a welcoming, inclusive and future-proofed environment conducive to personal development and the unlocking of academic potential.

Lucy’s new Passivhaus development will be complete by the end of summer 2022, providing a welcoming, inclusive and future-proofed base for social interaction, small-group learning and, of course, student living.

The surrounding grounds will be re-landscaped to create outdoor spaces at different scales including those suitable for events and performances, a sensory garden, and an intimate new courtyard for quiet relaxation or individual study.

Wellbeing and inclusivity were important design principles in all aspects of the new development and the new gardens themselves will be no exception.

With your support during LucyGives Giving Week we will create an outdoor environment which:

  • enables students to keep physically and mentally healthy, and to be inspired during individual or group study, improving their academic experience.

Thirty gifts of £508 help us cover the cost of planting new trees across the College site

  • is inclusive and welcoming to all - an outdoor manifestation of Lucy’s core DNA! The sensory garden aims to provide a welcoming and stimulating setting for everyone.

Twelve gifts of £250 will ensure we can install light columns to ensure the sensory garden is well lit

Seven gifts of £600 will ensure we can pave the walkways ensuring the gardens and new building are accessible to all

  • creates a setting which supports students’ wellbeing, providing a place to reflect, relax and socialise. Living close to greenspaces has been shown to benefit mental and physical health significantly, and all study bedrooms in the new development will have views of the gardens.

Four gifts of £5000 help us provide new, robust and resilient outdoor seating in the sensory garden

By supporting Lucy’s Outdoor Spaces you are helping us provide an environment conducive to personal development and the unlocking of exceptional levels of academic potential.

What is LucyGives?

LucyGives Giving Week (25 April – 1 May 2022) is a 7-day campaign for a better, fairer future. Driven by the College community’s support in LucyGives 2020, Lucy Cavendish is forging ahead with its pioneering vision, welcoming the most socio-economically diverse year group admitted by any Cambridge college this academic year. But this is just the start.

Your support during LucyGives 2022 will help realise our ambitions to achieve a UK student population which is broadly representative of society by 2025, and to increase numbers of talented students from under-served communities across the globe. LucyGives will support the brightest minds from all backgrounds, enabling them to access a world-class university education and to graduate with the skills and confidence to make a positive impact in society. Through LucyGives, we will together ensure our College and its global mission remain at the vanguard of change at the University of Cambridge.
