Abiola Ogbara, undergraduate HSPS student, tells us how practicing sports is improving her university experience.
“I am a second year Human Social and Political Sciences student at Lucy Cavendish College.
Despite the pandemic, I have had a great experience at Lucy and settled in very well. I am very familiar with the members of staff who have all made me feel at home here and I am also an active member of the Lucy Student Union. This has been a great opportunity to be at the heart of all the events and student affairs at the college and I've also been serving as the Sports and Societies Officer here too.
Philanthropy has had an amazing impact on my student experience as I was able to use my sports grant to take up gymnastics with the University team and pay for costs such as the annual membership as well the kit for training. It has meant that I have been able to rekindle some of my passions and keep up with my fitness and passion for sports.
Given the intensity of the Cambridge term, it has been incredibly important for me to have an outlet through extra-curricular activities that I enjoy as well as broaden my social network. This has also helped me to stay active, gain new skills and constantly challenge myself even beyond my academics, which is great in developing myself as an all-rounded person!”
